How to Get More Mentions on Twitter

Despite what you may have heard about Twitter, you can generate good quality traffic if you know how to work it properly. The real power of Twitter is it can be enormously viral because your network of friends there can help you – but that is after you develop business friendships and not before. However, in order to make that happen you have to get people to retweet your content to their followers.

Gratitude Goes a Long Way: When you take the time to thank people for retweeting for you, they’ll be more likely to do it in the future. It’s a good policy to reply with a “thanks” whenever you see that someone’s retweeted for you. It’s always a good idea to connect with your followers on Twitter as much as possible, especially when your posts are retweeted. This doesn’t take much effort on your part, but it will create a feeling of goodwill that will make people want to retweet your material again. By reaching out to your followers in this manner, you’ll become better known to them, and this will make them more likely to look out for your tweets -and retweet them- on a regular basis.

If you’re going to include links in your tweets (which you should) then make sure you’re using a URL shortener service such as bit.ly as it’s the most common and popular Url shortener in the market. We suggest you just use whatever URL shortener service that appeals to you. Just as long as the URL fits in space provided, then that will not pose any issues with retweets. Another good idea is to do a quick test for the link you have shortened – just to be on the safe side and make sure it works.

Take a Break: Tweeting continuously is not a good idea; give yourself some room and space between tweets. It works against you, and can even annoy your followers, if all of your tweets are grouped together because you went on a Twitter “binge.” If you create a group of tweets at the same time, they’ll appear in a block to your followers. This means, for one thing, that anyone who’s not looking at Twitter at that time will not see any of these tweets. You’ll have more followers reading and sharing your tweets if you post them strategically at different times and not in blocks. The idea is to have as many people see your tweets as possible, as this gives you the best chance of having them retweeted.

There is just a huge selection available in the way of tools and resources because every developer is going crazy with this. The button needs to be placed above the fold so your readers are able to clearly see it. If you look around, you’ll see most of the popular blogs leveraging social media platforms to get more exposure, and get their content in front of their target audience. So if you don’t have this simple option on your blog, you’re seriously cutting down on chances of getting more retweets. Every tweet that you send out to your followers is valuable, and therefore should be treated that way. You can spend about ten to fifteen minutes a day at Twitter and that can get the job done for you. So look at this as a business investment, and the best ones take time to mature like fine wine.
